Enso Words Tour

Using the word count command.

Welcome!

Enso Words gives you several tools—spellcheck, a dictionary, a thesaurus, word and character counts—that your computer probably already has. But Words gives them to you in an entirely new and more useful way!

It's Universal

With Enso Words, spellcheck is no longer tied to a particular application, and using a dictionary no longer requires an Internet connection. Instead, both are available all the time, and in any application. Gone are the days of misspelling instant messages or skipping past unknown words that take too long to look up. With Enso it's all at your fingertips.

Words uses the power of Enso to bring you truly universal features.

The word count command in action:

First, select the words that you wish to count. The text can come from any application, anywhere on your computer. If you can select it, you can count it.

Access Enso by pressing and holding down Caps Lock, while typing the command you want. In this screen shot, Enso figured out "word count" after only "wo" had been typed.

Releasing Caps Lock activates the command. A transparent message appears, and reports 864 words.

The define and thesaurus commands.

Librarian At Your Service

With Enso's define and thesaurus commands, it's like having a full-time librarian by your side. Anywhere and anytime you want to look up a word's definition or synonym, you can—Enso is always waiting for your command.

You can obtain a definition in two ways:

  • Select word you want to define, just select it, hold down Caps Lock, type "define", and release Caps Lock.
  • If you need to define a word that is not yet on your screen, hold down Caps Lock, type "define" and the word you want, and release Caps Lock.
Both methods will bring you to that word's entry. The thesaurus command works similarly.

Both the define and thesaurus commands bring up the Humanized Reference window, which works just like your web browser. You'll instantly feel right at home.

You can look up other words here. If Enso can't find the word you're looking for, it'll provide some suggestions. Of course, you can also use the spellcheck command.

Etymologies, first-use dates, pronounciations, and other useful reference material are included.

It's easy to switch between definitions and the thesaurus. Just click which one you want—you'll never need to re-type anything.

Spellchecking text in Napster

Spell check Anywhere

Why are spelling bees so tough? Because English is a melange of inconsistent rules and foreign languages. But Enso Words' spellcheck command helps you to tame this twisted tongue.

It doesn't matter whether text is editable, on a web page, or in your favorite music player: As long as you can select it, you can spell check it!

Issuing the spellcheck command

For example, here spellcheck is being performed on a query inside of Napster to figure out how to spell the composer Shostakovitch's name.

To get here, hold Caps Lock while typing "spe." To see spellcheck in action, watch the movie.

Enso Spellcheck is overlayed on the original application—in this case, Napster. You really can spell-check anywhere.

If you aren't satisified at first, Enso will update its suggestions to help you find the word you want as quickly as possible.

You can revert corrected words to their original spelling. It's non-linear undo.

Misspelled words are highlighted in yellow. Click for a list of suggestions.

When you finish making corrections, just use the done command, which will replace your changes in the original application.
